Baby Sax Update!

Hi friends!

The baby is growing well and has started moving a lot more. I generally get kicked right in the morning when I wake up, from 1-3p during the day while sitting at my desk, again in the evening after dinner, and right before bed. There are other times of random activity, but these times are pretty much set in stone. Last week I learned that the baby is starting to open and close its eyes and can hear different voices in conversation.

This is what happens this week (from babycenter.com)
Your baby weighs almost 2 pounds and is about 14 1/2 inches long with legs extended. The baby is sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing eyes, and perhaps sucking fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. While the lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on.

On Saturday Sheila came over to look at carseats with Erik and I. We had been trying to think of a nice gift that she could give the baby and this seemed like a great fit. After much research we decided on the Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant seat and to buy an additional base for easy transport. It is great and seeing it in our hallway makes it seem like there might be a baby joining us sometime soon! After buying the seat and having lunch, Sheila and I went out to JC Penny's and Kohl's. We got so much stuff...all in yellow and green. Sheila told me in no uncertain terms that if she has a grandson he will not be dressed in pink! ha! Whether this grandchild realizes it or not, Sheila has already started spoiling him/her. She is pretty convinced we are having a boy- that seems to be what most think we are having. It will be pretty neat to discover :)

We are making some headway on our house projects...thank goodness! Erik switched out the doors to the balcony in the nursery from sliding glass to french doors. Last night we sold the sliding glass doors to some folks off craigslist and next up is the armoire that is currently taking up space in our bedroom. We are moving that out and putting my dresser in its place so we can set up the nursery. This 4th of July weekend our plan is to: 1) sell the armoire 2) move dresser 3) paint nursery 4) set up crib 5) strip paint off of the baby chest of drawers.

Here is a terrible picture of me and my best friend from two weekends ago at a cupcake party- you can kind of see how pregnant I look. Plus, I'm barefoot, pregnant and ALMOST in the kitchen!

That's a great car seat. I got some experience with it last weekend with Guillaume's one-month-old nephew. Once you figure out which button does what, it's really easy to use.
