7.5 months

I forgot to post Karl's 7 month update, so here it is at 7 1/2 months!

1- Karl is a fast crawler. This is especially true if you leave a door open to the bathroom or the hallway. He sees an exit and moves as fast as he can to escape before you close the door.

2- Karl hates when we close doors to places he was hoping to go adventuring in. He cries dramatically until something else provides distraction. The same is now true when we take away things from his hands that he is playing with. He really gets mad if he has a paper napkin and is hoping to chew off a piece of it to choke on and we stop him from doing it. Poor baby.

3- Charlie and Karl still prove to be best buds. They play tug of war (Charlie generally wins), pull the leash tags, and Karl even gives belly scratches. Charlie is in heaven with a spit-up smelling human puppy crawling in and out of his crate leaving drops of spit up wherever he goes.

4- Karl LOVES shaking things. Give him a rag or a toy and he'll just shake it over and over. It reminds me of when Charlie was a puppy and was showing off how good he was at shaking dead animals in hopes we would take him on the hunt. Karl, hopefully, isn't try to prove his hunting skills...

5- Stairs are so much fun for little babies. Karl has climbed all the way to the top of our staircase (with spotters). We are still working on how to get back down, but his attention span isn't quite there yet.

6- Sleep is getting better. K only wakes up around 1am and then again around 4/5a I have gotten quite use to the routine.

7- Karl is great at standing. Anything he can use to stand up is fantastic. Charlie's crate is usually his favorite assistant, but the bedspread, changing table, or coffee table are helpful too :)

8- Solid foods still puzzle Karl and he prefers mama's milk more than anything else. Though, pickles and lemons are pretty fun to squeeze and taste while out at a restaurant with mom and dad.

9- Karl can be occupied with something by himself for 15 minutes or more. He has serious concentration powers. While I write this he is checking out the stack of dvds and our xbox controller we have under the tv.

10- Talking loudly and laughing at mom and dad is Karl's favorite thing to do. He loves standing in his crib and babbling loudly at us. When we talk back or laugh at him it just sets him off on a fit of squeals and belly laughs. It is very charming.

Dog lover...

Karl can't get enough of our Charlie. He plays with his toys, pulls his ears, and until recently had only been successful and standing outside of the crate screaming at the dog. This is what we discovered this morning...

See how Charlie is looking on at the visitor to his home?

The crawler

Karl has become an expert crawler and shuttles around at an alarming rate. Karl is also mastering the skill of pulling himself up to the standing position. He hasn't quite figured this out and more often than not will try to stand up with his feet too far away from the object he is using to pull on. The only time he is truly successful in standing is at the step leading up to our foyer. Yesterday, he figured out how to get his whole body up and crawled over to Charlie who was looking out the door. It looks like we'll have to keep a closer eye on him now as he doesn't know how to get back down the step without diving head first.

Erik snapped some shots of him sitting at the bottom of the step.

Earlier in the week Karl and I went to a Mother Goose Story & Play Time at our local library. Sadly, with budget cuts it looks like this will be the last one until the fall. We had a lot of fun and got some great ideas for play time at home and with friends. We will be doing something like this in a few Saturdays with our Phi Mu girls- I'll actually be leading the class. Hopefully it goes well!

These pictures aren't great as it was really dark in there:

All this activity tires our little son out
