1, 2, 3 strikes you're out!

Karl has had a pretty tough weekend- nap and night time sleep wise. He has been pretty cranky these past few days and I am telling myself that it is a "growth spurt"...even though I don't really think that's the case!

This morning Karl woke up wanting to wear the outfit that Grandma Lohr gave him! Here he is sporting his red baseball uniform. Cutest player on the team :)

This outfit is 3-6 month clothing (can you believe it?). BK is getting so big and working hard to get all his body parts to work together. He loves being on his tummy and is trying to push himself across whatever surface we put him on. I can already foresee a little guy roaming the house with his mother chasing behind him!

Karl's weekend crankiness has inspired us to find other ways to keep him happy and preoccupied. Erik picked Karl up in a shirt and before I knew it BK was in a makeshift swing! Speaking of Erik...anyone notice a change from last week to this? His seafaring days seem to be behind him! A smooth husband has appeared. Karl doesn't quite know who this guy with Daddy's voice but a pseudo-different face is.

Couldn't resist

Karl has just been looking so cute lately that I can barely resist taking pictures of him at all times. BK loves standing and he looks like a little man when Erik holds him up on the bed. Not only does he love standing, but lately he's been trying to sit up when he's frustrated with us too. It wont' be long before he is sitting up on his own without falling forward or to the side.

...and no, we weren't watching "So you think you're smarter than a 5th grader" on TV- this was just a passing moment.

Lazy Sundays

I don't know why; but we decided that BK would like the song by the Scissor Sisters, "Take your momma." He did. Also an opportunity to show off my winter beard. I'm going for that sea-captain look. Unfortunately the only fish we've caught is the stick variety. Still tasty though...

Almost 16 weeks old!

It seems like just yesterday that I was holding Karl for the first time. Yet, here we are with an almost 4 month old boy. These past 4 weeks have brought a lot of changes:

1. Karl is growing so big. He is out of 0-3 month clothing and is only slightly swimming in 3-6. I think he is probably about 14 lbs, but we'll find out at the beginning of Feb when he has his next Dr's appt.

2. His hand-eye coordination is getting much better and smoother. He now manages to grab his toys and has started pulling them towards his mouth to test them out.

3. It's not just toys he puts in his mouth, but those fingers have never tasted better! We are having to make sure those little hands are clean at all times :)

4. We've started calling Karl "BK"...well, I have anyway. Sheila calls him baby Karl and I think the abbreviation BK is pretty cute :)

5. Our little friend is also talking a lot! Here is a video of BK making his voice heard!

6. Night time is getting better in terms of sleep. Karl has started sleeping in his bassinet next to our bed for 5 or 6 hours straight and then will nurse and sleep for another 2 or 3 hours. He sure does love sleeping. We do too!

Christmas 2009

Hope all the holidays were lovely. We had a great time with my family and Sheila. Karl slept through the entire morning of opening gifts, but was eager for attention every time his mother (me) would sit down to eat. Sheila commented that it was years before she was able to enjoy a full meal at a table once she had children. Oh well!

This week Karl has been developing his hand eye coordination. We have been working on grabbing toys and bringing them slowly towards the mouth. He's getting pretty good and thinks it is hilarious when Dad shakes toys at him. Karl has also discovered his hands. They must be pretty tasty because they are always wet and cold.
