Family updates- July 2013

Both Dad & Sheila say it is time to update, so here goes!

Erik: Continues to bike to work and has been working on his ability to do tricks with his 'fixie' glow in the dark bike.  Here is a recent video of doing a track stand.

Erik is also doing awesome on his weight loss.  He has lost over 15 lbs since Lucy was born and this weekend he ran 8 miles and swam 50 laps at the pool.  He is a power house!

We've decided that for our 7th anniversary we are going to run an 8k the weekend before our actual wedding date.

Claire:  I am back to working on my doula career and will be taking clients starting in November.  I am still nervous about how Lucy will do, especially at night, but it will be wonderful to be back attending births and have the extra money before the holidays.

I have been working on some writing- mostly birth articles- to be published on the NOVA natural birth website or (hopefully) in the DONA monthly magazine. We'll see. I still have some research to finish and need someone to edit them.  I am also being interviewed by a woman who writes blog posts for bump.com- very exciting!

Karl: Our sweet guy still loves being a big brother and we often have to remind him to be gentle as he just wants to squeeze Lucy as hard as he can.

We do a lot of artwork together in the basement while Lucy is awake and while she naps.  Here is one of my favorite pictures 'The Peacock'

This is a man in different rooms of his house

This is Flippy and Belinda our hand friends.  We had a full day of conversations between our two hands.
Karl is finally big enough to work on the alphabet activities I made for him a year ago.  This wheel has capital letters- the clothes pins have the matching lower case letters.  There are three wheels- upper case letters, lower case letters, and pictures where you have to match the sound of the first letter with the correct clothes pin.

Big brother is also learning to ride his bike. He and Erik spend a lot of time at the playground doing tricks.

When the weather isn't too hot we take our crafts outside and do some painting.  Recently, we had a friends over (she is just 18 months) and painting outside became nude painting!

Lucy:  Little Lucy has a lot of monikers- Little Lu (Erik), Lucy Goose (Claire), Goosey (Karl's little friend D.), Moosey Moose (Karl).  We will see which one sticks.

She is getting more active as the days go by and just a few days ago we got our first real giggle.  There are no words to express how adorable it was. She squeals!

Unlike Karl at this age, Lucy is rarely happy laying in someone's arms.  She has to be standing up.  Often if she starts fussing at Erik all he needs to do is let her stand and she is content for at least 15 minutes.

I am often amazed at the positions little ones find comfortable to sleep in. This picture doesn't really show off how twisted Lucy is, but her back is completely bowed and her neck was stretched so far back it looked painful.

I think that as much as Lucy loves her mama right now, the biggest and most wonderful person in her life will end up being Karl. Already she hears his voice and looks for him in the room.  I am glad that we waited to have another baby as Karl is fantastic with her.

One last thing- a long video of really nothing :) Lucy just looks cute and talks some. I figure only the grandparents will watch it.
