Happy October!

April used to be my favorite month. For selfish reasons, it's my birthday month. However, in the past two years I have come to love October more than any other month. It's cool weather, the changing leaves, and the abundance of pumpkins makes it wonderful. October is also special to our family. Erik and I married on October 7th in 2006 and in 2010 we had Karl on the 10th.

As this year marked the 5th anniversary of our wedding, Erik and I thought it would be fun to do some camping. We left Karl behind for his first overnight at Sheila's house and then we headed out to Prince William Forest Park. We spent the evening around a campfire with wine, scrabble, smores & champagne. It was wonderful! Wonderful until about 1:30 in the morning when our neighbors got a little too inebriated and enjoyed their own shennanigans loudly. We were happy to head home at 7am the next morning. Thank goodness Karl wasn't with us as he didn't have to hear the loud laughter or feel the hard hard ground digging into his bones. Or the cold. As Erik says "It was an anniversary you will never forget". How true that is and how much it makes me smile when I think about our crazy adventure.

The next morning we headed out to Sheila's to pick up Karl and celebrated his birthday. Sheila got a little cake and after lunch Karl was very excited to taste it.

After cake it was present time! Karl got some books, puzzles & a nativity set. This was the first time we've seen him understand that there is something under the wrapping paper.

On Monday, Karl's actual birthday, we went to the playground with a friend and had lunch out. That evening we cut his hair. It was getting a bit long as you can see from some of the playground pictures. He looks like a little boy now. I'll admit it makes me a bit sad.

This past weekend we had another adventure: apple picking! We went with our good friends Megan and Chris. Karl filled his belly with apples. By the time we got him into his car seat he was exhausted. It was a great day.

Happy October, everyone!
